STATUS REPORT: 20190604
Several small updates have been made, including additional features in the pause menu, such as a status screen and volume options, tweaks to the character customization, and the final boss and levels of the game have been completed with an actual endgame, finally. The endgame stuff is all locked in the demo, but it'll get unlocked fully in the final release.
Among the small updates is some balancing work for difficulty - to help the players on their daunting journey, I've provided all the save room locations on the map right off the bat and any doors leading to a save room now have a different design and color. On top of this, I went with a Halo-esque health recharge system. Where previously, health recharged one point every ten seconds; now, your health will begin to recharge after ten seconds - and once it starts, it's continuously recharging at a rate of one point per second until you're back up to full health. This is big stuff in terms of gameplay - it significantly improves the pacing and difficulty of the game. It pays off to go on the defensive when you're on low health now. Bosses and enemies will finally no longer kill you during their death animation, as well.
The endgame stuff - without spoiling too much - gets pretty crazy, and I highly recommend running a two-player campaign, as it has a special ending.
This game has been a lot of fun to work on and even more fun to test; I've had a few pairs of friends come over and do some blind test runs and was able to get some excellent feedback.
Currently working on adding a few secrets here and there and some additional gamemodes to go in there - things like a versus mode for two-player, a boss rush mode, and an unlockable character with a different mission.
